Cut from bridge stringer log we purchased in 1998. A log that was cut in the early 80`s for a log bridge. It is the lightest weight sitka we have ever encountered out of millions of board feet of large diameter sitka we have processed into soundboard material. 15% lighter as a matter of fact. About the same weight as our fine textured western red cedar. It is a bit looser texture that most old growth. The butt of the log had wider grain than the small end 60+ feet up the tree. They are loud and vibrant. Most boards have the occasional bearclaw.
* Note- Another log/ tree has been found with the same tonal properties and very similar aesthetic properties.. This second tree is water salvaged float log and is whiter in color.
Enhanced Resonance for Your Archtop Guitar
The exceptional properties of this Ultra Light Sitka Spruce Archtop Guitar top translate directly into superior acoustic performance. Its unique lightness, being 15% less dense than typical old-growth Sitka, dramatically enhances vibration and responsiveness, resulting in a distinctly loud and vibrant sound. This timber offers an unparalleled dynamic range, allowing for nuanced expression and powerful projection—qualities essential for a professional-grade archtop guitar. The slightly looser texture and occasional bearclaw figuring contribute to a unique tonal complexity, producing rich overtones and an inviting warmth that differentiates it from standard soundboards. This is not just wood; it’s a foundation for an instrument with an extraordinary voice.
